A few days ago I read a post on my newsfeed that I did not agree with – like that is a newsflash – but, I digress. The writer of the post expressed his opinion regarding women being referred to as sexy. He views a woman being called or referred to as sexy an insult. Now, I am very open and appreciative of a variety of beliefs and positions regarding several topics – we are all entitled to have our opinion. However, I think it is good practice to look at situations from different perspectives before drawing a conclusion.
The post spoke about a woman not being valued for who she is if a man views her as sexy. I disagree mainly because having sexual desires, and thoughts is a part of being human – it is how we were made. What we should be mindful of is how we respond to those natural thoughts and desires.
Along with there being varying opinions when it comes to every subject in life, there is also a plethora of views of what makes a person sexy and desirable. The fact of the matter is, there are some attributes people possess that are considered alluring and down right sexy that have absolutely nothing to do with their physical appearance. For an example, there are some people who find a person’s intellect sexy. We are all different and find ourselves attracted to others for many reasons. One of my celebrity crushes, Andre 3000, is attractive and sexy to me because of his sense of style and self-expression.
The bottom line is, we are considered attractive and attracted to people for a lot of reasons. And for this reason, I want to encourage all people to embrace and appreciate their positive attributes. Be sexy – if it is because of your book smarts, street smarts, your walk or your smile. Be who you are and let it shine through.
Truth be told, we have no control over how others see us and what they think about us. We can only manage our behavior.
