National Women’s Month: Mary Tyler Moore & the Diamond Knit Jumpsuit

On January 25, 2017 we lost a television and cultural icon, her name was Mary Tyler Moore. The day she passed I had an interesting conversation with my mother. I can recall my mother talking about how much she enjoyed watching The Dick Van Dyke Show, which co-starred Ms. Moore. I learned that this woman changed the way women were depicted on television. But, she actually did more than that – she changed how women were viewed overall and inspired females of various walks of life.

When I watch reruns of the Mary Tyler Moore  Show, I see a fashionable, strong, independent, and determined woman. Her show sends the message that women are capable of doing anything.

During the aforementioned conversation with mother, she told me how she was inspired by Ms. Moore. Mary Richards was a single woman employed as a television news producer. Seeing a woman play a strong and independent person in a male dominated world encouraged my mother to go out into the “working world.”

The Mary Tyler Moore Show began before I was born, but the mark it made is still visible today. Which, brings me to fashion. Not only did Ms. Moore make a huge statement highlighting the abilities of women, she also showed you can look good doing it.

A few weeks ago while I was shopping online I came across the Diamond Knit Jumpsuit from ELOQUII, which inspired this post. The description of the jumpsuit reads, “Mary Tyler Moore consider this your stiff competition” – and I have to agree. This piece embodies classic style, femininity, confidence and strength.

I purchased the Diamond Knit Jumpsuit and I adore it! There is a 1970’s feel to it that is well structured and comfortable. Perfect for work and can easily transition to Happy Hour with friends.

I believe clothes can boost our confidence and empower us to strive for what we desire. As I’ve stated before, when we look good we feel good and subsequently, we do good things.

This is National Women’s Month and I want to encourage all of us to tap in to our strengths and go after our dreams. We can’t accomplish them if we don’t try. Don’t fear the possibility of failure – living in regret will be much worse. Furthermore, once you put your mind to it you will realize, “you might just make it after all.”

Until the next time, be you and most importantly – love you.

Being uniquely you is being uniquely beautiful.
