Being the G.O.A.T.

Several years ago Will Smith won a Grammy, and during his acceptance speech he claimed to be the greatest rapper ever. At the time I considered his claim to be unsubstantiated and totally absurd. Mainly because there are multiple rap artists that I consider to be much better than him, and truthfully speaking—other than “Summertime”—I don’t think he’s written or performed any good songs. But, whether or not Will Smith is the greatest rapper ever is not the purpose of this post.

For some reason, that I have been unable to identify, Mr. Smith’s statement of being the greatest came to my mind yesterday and I’m glad it did.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

1 Corinthians 13:11 KJV

As I stated at the beginning of this post, the speech took place many years ago—over a decade—and now I view it differently. Now I see his statement as an aspiration and an inspiration.

We should all consider ourselves to be great in spite of what others think and even more so when we have moments of self-doubt. Bottom line—it is all about our mindset.

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…

Proverbs 23:7 KJV
