“Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create. Do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real. But fear is a choice.” – Will Smith
Fear is defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. There are several occurrences in life that can generate fear. When I was 17 I was in a car accident that left me petrified about ever driving again. In retrospect, the accident wasn’t that bad, but it shattered my confidence in my ability to drive and stay safe. I allowed one experience to hinder me from driving. It took me a few years to face my fear and drive again. But, I found the courage to let go of my fear and move forward.
I had to believe in myself and trust that everything would be fine. By no means was it easy. Yes, I was nervous and unsure – but, I pushed through it. I realize how crippling fear can be. It is a huge hindrance to reaching our full potential. It can sabotage every aspect of our being – if we allow it. And our self-image is not immune.
Fear can influence us to shy away from being ourselves. We can concede to the negative thoughts of rejection and possible humiliation if we go against the grain. It is true that risk taking can be scary, but it can also be extremely rewarding. Just think of how many amenities we have that wouldn’t exist if risks weren’t taken. And the same holds true when we deprive the world, and ourselves, of our true selves.
Someone is depending on you to be yourself. It may be your child, sibling, or friend. Your unique self is needed in this world, so don’t hide it due to fear. You are you for a reason, so don’t let the uncertainties of life keep you from reaching your full potential in every area of your life – including being comfortable in your skin.
So, when fear tries to raise its head, remember to Face Everything And Rise – you can do it!
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
Furthermore…
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed: for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10 KJV
Until the next time, be you and most importantly – love you.
Being uniquely you is being uniquely beautiful.
